FAQ

How is professional counseling different from talking to a friend, someone in my small group, or a pastor?
A licensed professional counselor has a Master’s degree in counseling and is trained to recognize and respond in ways that are conducive to growth. You can enjoy a reliable and consistent one-sided relationship so that you can focus exclusively on you. With a licensed professional counselor, you also get confidentiality assurances that are protected by the law.

What can I expect from meeting with you?
You can expect to benefit from my counseling skills; my executive, pastoral, and marriage and family experience; and my genuine interest and care for you.
You can expect me to listen well and ask you questions and offer insights that will help you to get to the root of your issues and grow.
You can expect a safe place for you to work through conflicts with others so that all parties feel heard and understood and can connect and move forward.

Do you assign homework?
If you want to do additional work between sessions, I am happy to support your efforts.

How much will counseling cost?
My rate for a 50 minute session is $165.
My rate for a 90 minute couples or family session is $225.

Do you take insurance or HRA/HSA/FSA?
I only accept the three Kansas Medicaid plans and HRA/HSA/FSA.

You may have out of network benefits with your insurance. I’m happy to provide documentation that you can submit for reimbursement.

Justin, can I speak with you to see if you’re a good fit for me?
Yes. Finding a good fit with a counselor is important. I’m happy to speak with you on the phone and may even be able to schedule a complimentary 15 minute in-person consultation.

How long will counseling take?
Addressing surface issues can be beneficial and accomplished in a few sessions. Identifying and working on the root issues that cause the surface issues, and developing new habits that provide benefits for a lifetime, takes more time.

Do you offer Zoom/Telehealth or phone options?
Yes and I have found these to be convenient and effective.

How do I schedule an appointment with you?
